With just three ingredients and about 10 minutes, you can make your own brown sugar facial scrub. Here is what you will need:
1. Coconut Oil. I use Spectrum organic coconut oil. You can buy it from Amazon here for $7.99, but many chain grocery stores and natural food stores, such as Whole Foods, also carry coconut oil.
3. Essential Oil (optional). Essential oils can be found at your local natural foods or health food store. Here are a few suggestions if you are interested in adding them to your scrub:
Tea Tree Oil: Good for acne prone skin
Lavender Oil: Great for soothing, balancing and hydrating skin
Geranium: Works to treat wrinkles and sensitive skin
4. A container to place it in. I use these great little spice jars from Ikea. They come in a pack of 4 for $3.99.
Now that you have got all of your ingredients in place, it time to make your scrub!
1/2 cup coconut oil
3/4 cup of brown sugar
1-4 drops essential oil (I used Tea Tree Oil)
(Makes approximately 6 ounces of scrub)
Place coconut oil in a microwave safe glass cup or container. Microwave on High for 20-25 seconds until oil has become mostly liquid. Remove from the microwave immediately and mix the sugar with your coconut oil. Once the sugar and coconut oil are well mixed, add in your few drops of essential oil and mix a bit more. Pack your mixture into the container of your choice.
To Use: Wash your face with your normal cleanser and rinse. Then massage your scrub into your face in a circular motion and let sit for 2-3 minutes. After 2-3 minutes, rinse your face with warm water. Use a wet washcloth to wipe excess scrub from skin. Rinse and repeat until oil is washed away. Pat dry with a clean washcloth.
The scrub left my skin feeling very soft and clean. Although one of the main ingredients is coconut oil, it doesn’t leave my skin with an oil residue. So, now it’s your turn to give it a try! I would love to hear what you think of it!
